Based on residential permit data compiled by the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan (HBA) and reported in the HBA/Carter Lumber Southeastern Michigan Residential Building Activity Report, a total of 264 single-family permits were issued in Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Wayne counties in February 2019.

Gen Z gearing up to be homebuyers

The oldest members of Generation Z are setting their sights on home ownership nearly as often as millennials, according to a new survey.Property Shark, which provides data to real estate professionals, found in a recent survey that 83 percent of Gen Zers born between 1995 and 1999 plan to buy a home in the next five years. The survey defined Gen Z as those born from 1995 to 2010, but it included responses only from Gen Zers 18 or older.

Builder Confidence Stays at Healthy Level in July

Builder confidence in the market for newly built single-family homes remained unchanged at a solid 68 reading in July on the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI).

“Consumer demand for single-family homes is holding strong this summer, buoyed by steady job growth, income gains and low unemployment in many parts of the country,” said NAHB Chairman Randy Noel.

California Developer Helps Homeless Veterans

An estimated 20-25% of the U.S. homeless population are military veterans. So in an effort to help a portion of the needy in the Los Angeles area, Mercy Housing California, a regional arm of the national nonprofit developer, created a plan and allocated the funding for El Monte Veterans Village.

The community’s 40 furnished studio units are now home to homeless military veterans in Los Angeles County.

The community was the winner in NAHB’s Pillars of the Industry Awards in the category of Best Military or Veterans Housing.

BALA Awards Shine Spotlight on Top Design Trends.

A remarkable 129 single-family, multifamily, interior design, remodeling and community projects were honored at the 2017 Best in American Living™ Awards (BALA) ceremony held during the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando.

Judges awarded eight Best in Region, five Of the Year and two Judges’ Discretionary awards. In addition, one Game Changer award was given as well as one “Wow!” award, a special award given to a project with a one-of-a-kind design detail. These projects represent the nation’s best in home and community design, interior design and remodeling.

Builder Confidence Posts Solid Gain in October

Builder confidence in the market for new single-family homes rose four points to 68 in October on the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI). This was the highest reading since May.

“This month’s report shows that home builders are rebounding from the initial shock of the hurricanes,” said NAHB Chairman Granger MacDonald. “However, builders need to be mindful of long-term repercussions from the storms, such as intensified material price increases and labor shortages.”
